Western Fairfax Christian Ministries
(Sep 29, 2021) Catherine Read talks with Harmonie Taddeo, Executive Director of Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM). This non-profit was founded in 1987 with volunteers from 12 churches that saw the community’s need for coordinated aid. Their first pantry was located at the Centreville-based Keener Insurance Agency. Charles Keener, a member of the Rotary Club of Centreville-Chantilly, continues to support WFCM through his family, insurance company, and Rotary.
Harmonie Taddeo took over the leadership of WFCM in February of 2019. In addition to expanding programs and services in the Western Part of Fairfax County, she was confronted with the many challenges of the COVID pandemic that closed down many in-person programs in March of 2020. WFCM provides food and financial support to families at risk of hunger and homelessness in 8 zip codes in western Fairfax County. Their client choice food pantry in Chantilly allows people to select foods to meet their families individual needs. It is unique among food assistance programs in the area. This year they have also added a Refrigerator Program, placing commercial refrigerators in locations around the area including schools, community centers, and with partner organizations.
WFCM’s response and adaptation have led to new ways of engaging with clients and also new collaborations. Many nonprofits discovered each other during this time as they sought to manage the pressing need to feed people impacted by COVID layoffs and school closings. Once such collaboration with ICNA Relief illustrates how people helping people can open new doors.
Volunteers, donations, and collaborations are always welcome. You can find WFCM at www.wfcmva.org On Instagram: @WFCMVA1 On LinkedIn: /western-fairfax-christian-ministries On YouTube: /wfcmvirginia
