Stones into Schools – Greg Mortenson

Aug. 8, 2010 – Subtitled: Promoting Peace with Books, Not Bombs, in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is a wonderful book! A great follow-up to Three Cups of Tea and helped by the first person telling of the stories. Greg Mortenson’s “Dirty Dozen” embodies for me the entire concept of Seth Godin’s “Linchpins.” The work they are doing is amazing. At the heart of it is the desire by parents all the world over to give their children the chance at a better future. The Central Asia Institute empowers, inspires and supports these ordinary people in remote areas of the world to be the change they seek for themselves. It’s a quest to build simple schools that offer girls the chance at literacy. Along the way they have helped many adults as well in these remote villages of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Greg Mortenson and his team have shown them the way, but their accomplishments are very much their own. This is an inspiring book and a gift to the world.
